Is the Baron a woman?

In the Prologue there was some line about "don't call her a countess" I didn't know at the time who that was referring to.

Then in this chapter the Baron said something about how he was cute as a child, but now that he is bigger he is gross...almost made it seem like the Baron was attracted to him in some way.
