@agtra Agreed. I'm surprised, really . . . this manga is totally into talking up Scipio being clever, and that seems to have been a pretty well-documented clever thing he did, so it would have totally fit the narrative.
Meanwhile, I am very impressed with the speed of releases.

Exactly that would fit the narrative much better. Maybe Japanese translation of the account mistranslate some part and the author got the wrong idea.

@rrolo1 Yeah I thought he just wrote it that way for the parallel, so I can only assume he missed the Cannae parallels and decided to force a Trebia parallel to keep up the "Scipio is the Roman Hannibal" idea

I also wonder why the author didn't follow the account from the original sources (Polybius and Livy) who both stated that the day started out hot so the combination of no food plus no water in addition to the heat is what exhausted the Carthaginians. The downpour came after the encirclement had broken the Punic formations.

At least the author did mention that Scipio redeployed the legionaries to the wings instead of the center like he had done the previous days which brought about the reverse Cannae, but he insisted on comparing this fight to Trebbia. Unexpectedly weak story-telling in an otherwise masterful retelling of the Hannibal-Scipio saga.

Well that Libyan warriors are sure an exaggeration, their mainstay punic infantry are mostly influenced by greeks either in fighting style or equipment. Totally not that barbarian-style fighting.

I do not mind the surprise though, just thought I would put it here to avoid misconception about Libyan infantry during the punic wars.
