Hard to read another chapter from here... He's just being manipulative, almost gaslighting. What the hell is his dumb logic, "I can't stop being an asshole to you, then I'd be being fake! So, you should accept every bad thing I do without question!"

I will allow a good amount of leeway for unhealthy relationships for dramatic tension's sake, but here it feels a lot more like the author is holding up an abusive relationship as just being okay somehow.
