I love this chapter. On the one hand, we see the loneliness Gion felt growing up. On the other hand, we see Gion's actions might have contributed to his loneliness a little. His actions are not justified because he's the MC. He's a flawed but lonely character, and that makes the audience side with him even more. So good!
