Wow talk about setting up a feeling of a bittersweet ending for this series eventually. Like she will grow up make new actual friends no longer having a need for them to be filling that void and will stop being able to see them or even forget them completely except for the vague reminders that don't fully click of them having been there. Maybe that is even what happened with the grandmother when she was young and they had at one time been the grandmothers friends.
