Actually, there's some psychological stuff that goes against that. The more you hang out with people and get to know one another, the more likely you are to fall in love.
It's the "Mere-Exposure" effect, as people tend to start to like something the more they interact with it. It's like the concept of acquired taste, but expanded to more interactions. Additionally, in terms of propinquity, or frequency of interactions, there is evidence to suggest the longer two people know one another or interact, plus the longer the courtship, the more successful the relationship tends to be.
This isn't to say there isn't issues when you know someone for a long time and introduce love or change the dynamics, or the risk of having someone else come in and "sweep them away" so to say, but it is a good general rule that the more two people interact, the more likely they are to mutually connect and fall in love.
