I love these stories hurt a bit. You can't tell what the truth is, who actually believes their own story, who is just justifying to themselves. Really interesting.

@Owloid Yeah. Although if I had to guess, I'd go with: Dad was lying because he's obviously an asshole who would do something like that. Sick brother was conflicted but basically a good guy trying to protect his brother and quite accurate in his suspicions. And the servant girl was tasked with keeping an eye on sick brother by the dad, but she ended up falling for him and being primarily loyal to him rather than the dad 'cause the dad's an asshole.
But I couldn't claim to know any of that.
