so my own take:

- throwing rings aka financial support is really ???? to me because
1) they are ancient artefacts and need to be preserved
2) what about those who really, really needs the funding
3) at least return them to the fathers please, because there is a superstition that you should never throw away gifts
4) but really, shinra has no respect for the rings?? they had been with him all this long.. sorry i am a sentimental person
- double take on the students finally know that nanase isnt rich; it was her grandfather, otherwise she stays on a bathhouse for a living

I can understand why he had to throw away rings, as long as they are around there will always be selfish people going so far to murder to get them. There will always be those that offer funding even without some special rings, with this research can go back to what it used to be before going all business-like, an adventure that might seem scary, but it's so beautiful with a good partner.
