I'm pretty she's lost it by now. Search on how to create a vaccine. Usually, you have to kill, weaken, etc. the virus. Mangaka does a good job of her not being obviously nuts. Carefully studying zombie behavior is actually a good idea (if it works) since it requires no special equipment. In a way, it would be like how prey make sure they can stay alive when their predator is nearby. MC at least doesn't panic, which usually kills off most victims in real situations as well.
