my bet is that this was all a simulation and this is just a big bug in the system (if you can program a heaven, why not program an entire earth?)

Yeah I think that's even sort of the implied reality earlier in the series. I mean, we've had several chapters that present the events of the manga as having taken place in alien tv shows. The rabbit chapter for example.

I wonder if there's supposed to be any continuity in this series. It feels like you could most of the chapters in any order and be fine. Every chapter a different universe maybe?
