But the prince was cursed by the *witch because he was a selfish, uppity brat that wouldn't afford a poor old woman shelter from a storm because she was ugly. I'm still wondering where this "kind and honest heart" was. He changed by the end, but he was cursed because he was an ass. XDD

Fair—it's with absolute maximum rose-tinted glasses. Which is to say: It's Disney's Beauty and the Beast with a shoujo-manga filter pre-attached. (Spoiled and ultimately handsome violent brat who mellows out a bit by the end and loves only you? = "A kind and honest person". Seems to check out with the good old shoujo tropes to me XD)
