@Degernase , there are many reasons. But the main one has to be "for camouflage". No reason to go around showing off you just killed a dragon god and took his money.

A ton of the loot was gold/jewelry which isn't suspicious like scales from the dragon god would be or whatever. He can just trade it in little by little in stores when traveling.
If someone questions where he got it from (why would they in the first place?), he can just say that he and his adventurer friends stumbled on a bandit hideout and looted it.

Earlier he tried to just buy scrolls and the shopkeep said she would require cores for that. But just giving a unlimited amount of cores would be suspicious so he disguised himself.
