You have to wonder how the moon species even survives...

There are examples in the animal world of sexual cannibalism but only in species with significant sexual dimorphism that produce a lot of babies at once when they do mate. In a human-like species that tends to only have one kid at a time it just wouldn't work...their whole population would shrink to nothing in a few generations.
