Does inserting links to pages within the site hurt performance?

I'm considering opening a manga scavenger hunt type thread, but I was wondering if a thread that encourages the participants to post url links to content within the website would put a unusual amount of load on the system.

We've got thousands of people hammering the site every second, a handful of people clicking links does nothing
