Galette (Anthology) - Vol. 15 Ch. 12 - Good Night

Thanks for the upload! That's kind of an...underwhelming tattoo? Is this like when Westerners get Japanese writing for tattoos? Japanese people getting English writing?

Well glad to see that they managed to get along again and i'm just about to go to sleep but choose to read sum nice Yuri and so i'd have a good night time and wonderful dream...

GOODNIGHT😊😴

Eh... didn't really do anything for me. Stupid people should be called out for their stupid tattoos, so not happy that the girlfriend backtracked on it.

So in the end, nothing was resolved, huh. It was still a stupid tattoo, and they still have communication issues. She's bullying her partner into pretending she's happy, but I guess she's okay with it or something.

This is a side of yuri relationships that's not often shown, the daily struggles of adult lovers, not the early stages where they aren't sure if they should go out or the dangers of a third wheel, just the slice of life stuff where two different people try to get along even with their differences... I think it would've been more meaningful if the phrase was something deeper but anyway, the sleepy face did it for me lol

@icekatze bullying? oh my god...

@Serenata
I know, right? She messes up, then guilt trips her partner into feeling like it's her fault that she doesn't love her enough.

"I did it for you."
"But I don't like it."
"No, you have to say you like it."
It'd be funny if it wasn't so depressing.

@icekatze
To be frank, your comment rubs the wrong way, but to clarify, I don't agree with you at all... Also is not about liking the tattoo or not, it's clearly not the issue (as stated at the start and at the end, the problem was about not telling her first, not the tattoo itself)

@Serenata
Oh, I guess that was my misunderstanding. Sorry.

Not talking about it ahead of time is definitely the big ethical issue with regards to the tattoo itself. It's like the difference between seeing a friend and sneaking around to see someone behind their back. (Although "impulse buyer vs non-impulse buyer," is, statistically speaking, also a huge issue IRL, even if neither side is to blame on that count.)

Still, the whole "lie to me and yourself," bit rubs me the wrong way in the worst way. I admit, my real life experience in that area is a bit lacking, since I've generally tried to avoid couples like that. So I'm not sure if people like my estranged middle school friend, who spent years lying like that and pretending everything was okay in a miserable bid to try to hold their marriage together, ever actually found happiness. Maybe things'll work out in the end.

I'm willing to agree to disagree if the argument is turning out to be unpleasant though. 😋

I really liked the nebulous feeling this manga's conflict gave me. On the one hand, tattoo girl has the right to get whatever tattoo she likes. In contrast to something like buying a car, or taking a new job, or most other big life decisions, getting a small tattoo really only impacts her. It doesn't affect the relationship financially or logistically. But relationships are complex, and in practice I think I would be just as upset as long haired girl, and for much the same reason. I wouldn't be bothered by the tattoo as much as what it says about my partner's decision making process. Either they are so impulsive that they would make a life-long decision without me, or they value my opinion so little they didn't bother to ask. Either way I'd feel really uncertain about my future with that person, and I think this manga captured that feeling well.

I'm less thrilled with how this manga resolves the conflict. To begin with that "say you like it" bit annoyed me. If you wanted her to like it you should have asked her ahead of time... :/ I get what the author is going for here: long haired girl's issue was that it felt like tattoo girl didn't care about her, and tattoo girl was comforting her by telling her she was thinking of her. But I think the dialogue needed to be worded better. What irritates me most though is that tattoo girl is smiling throughout the whole conversation. Like we have long haired girl upset and talking about how she didn't feel valued, and tattoo girl is grinning??? Why? It makes her apology seem insincere.

I do like the thing at the end with the sleepy face though. It illustrates one reason why its good to talk to your partner about your life decisions, even if it doesn't technically impact them: they might have good advice. In this case, I think the sleepy face would have been a way nicer tattoo, and tattoo girl seems to agree. Overall I'm happy I read this story, since the conflict was really interesting, even if I didn't completely agree with how it was resolved.

The problem was never about the tattoo's design as much as it was never telling her she was going to get a tattoo...

Y'all might now this, but tattoos are something japan doesn't like seeing. Most likely due to tattoos reminding people of yakuza and delinquency. But as long as you cover it up, it's all good. You can't enter hot springs or public beaches. Since her tat is literally soooo tiny. It shouldn't be a problem as it can probably be easily covered up with an hair band.
Honestly the tattoo isn't even that big or even great. Don't really see the problem other than the manipulation. euck.
