Genjitsushugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki - Vol. 4 Ch. 21 - Declaration of War (1)

Carla and Castor ended up being played like pawns...it's really too bad for them.

Honestly Souma expected Castor to trust him, but he didn't trust Castor. Souma should blame himself for their rebellion more than blaming them.

HOOfan_1: Its not that Souma didn't trust him. The point is that, he knew what kind of guy was Castor.

He knew that, if he had informed Castor about the whole situation, Castor would have jumped in and tried to stop George from completing his plan, not worrying about the consequences about his decision.
But if Castor had done that, then all the work that Souma, Hakuya and George put into to remove the corrupt nobles and de-power the Amidonian army, would have gone to waste, and the whole Kingdom's position would have become more dire.

The story telling and world in this one is actually pretty good. Also helps I like the more Macro/Micro oriented Isekai instead of the adventuring ones :p Thanks for the update :D

@HOOfan_1
Let's look at it this way shall we.

The former king abdicated his throne and announced that the hero that the kingdom summoned will become the new king, and will marry his daughter to further cement the claim. Later on, it becomes clear that the princess has absolutely no problems with this arrangement and is actively assisting him. This king then goes on to rebuild the kingdom's dying economy and begins laying down the foundations for a stronger military force, all the while he is communicating with his subjects about what state of kingdom is like and furthermore offers them solutions to the food crisis in a fun and entertaining manner...and this is after he sent out a call for talents of all kinds to display what they can do, incidentally giving some of those that entered the contests exposure to anyone interested in their talents.

Now after seeing the Head of the Navy, the one everyone agrees is a strategic genius, side with the new king, he blusters and sides with the pretend traitor, who was serving as a gathering point for corrupt nobles, because of Friendship. There was no forethought going into this regarding penalties of being a traitor to the throne, no thought about how his actions would affect his people and loyal soldiers and especially his daughter, and unlike George, there wasn't even greater strategic plan underlying his decision. Only, "Duke George is my friend and I'm siding with him."

Would you trust someone like that with something so sensitive?

@Morose
How he treats Castor and his daughter from this point on is especially reprehensible since he knows their circumstances
Also huge major spoilers
We’re 10 volumes in, he’s crowned king, has twins, but the damn demons STILL have not invaded! What’s the hold-up? There should be some actual challenge to him on the horizon.

this story is really crazy good, the manga is a bit too darkly detailed I think but it still remains nice 😊

The best laid plans, right?

Well, everything up until now has been regrettable. But now, Souma's not bearing his fangs at his countrymen anymore-he's targeting enemies of the state. No need to regret what comes next...

@CBC I wouldn't trust some random guy who appeared out of nowhere that becomes the King in mere minutes. Who knows what kind of bewitching magic he used. Liscia didn't trust him right away either. Castor basically said the reason he rebelled was because he trusts Carmine's instincts and I think at this point even Souma is saying that Carmines's instincts seem better than his own.

At that point it's not about Carmine being Castor's friend, it's about Castor trusting Carmine's instincts and the fact that he thought Carmine knew something bad about Souma that he did not.

@Sep10trion

I'd say Castor is probably treated fairly, it's Carla who gets the shaft. She saves his life several times and he could acknowledge that and the fact that she was willing to be loyal to him without the slave collar. It wouldn't even be so bad if he took her slave collar off but told her she was now to serve the royal family. I think Carla would have been happy to stay with Liscia. The thing that ticks me off, is that he keeps the slave collar on her and lets the head maid physically abuse her. He doesn't seem to have any animosity toward her and he seems to have sympathy for her, but he just shrugs off the head maid abusing her.

@firosahoge
He needs accomplishments to justify having a harem of talented women. Also, the harem needs accomplishments to be in the harem. Souma can’t just pick some pretty commoner and be like, “She’s my new concubine.” It’s a vicious cycle.

Souma is permitted one wife/concubine/woman for each day of the week (a week is 8 days in that world) last I checked. Reasoning being that the princess-Queen-to-be already is prepared for excess sun-queens and concubines, but adamantly insists that each wife should have a day to have him to herself.

The dark elf glutton instantly gains enough contributions to join, but since Juna is an idol, and the most popular among them no less, Souma can’t lay his hands on her until there are more idols to phase her out. Afterwards, he’ll take a tanuki, and a snake. I’m behind several volumes and don’t know about any future candidates...

@Yautja
The Amidonian King is a moron too. Dude takes all the country’s budget and pours it ito military spending, intentionally keeping the populace hungry so they have something (MC’s country) to resent. He even planned to have dissenters executed, so all the same government officials fled.

Basically, the MC always comes out on top because he keeps various philosophies honored and maintained, whether they be Machiavelli or the Art of War, even taking pages from lessons learned from the failures of Communism and the Cold War...

To sum things up, everyone will always be conveniently stupid so the author can have Souma quote Socrates or someone and come out on top.

As for the Lion General dude, he did it under the orders of the previous king, who had married into the royal family. The queen actually has slight time control magic, and has been Re:Zero’ing for some future where Amidonia doesn’t spank her country into destruction.

Her last run almost went well, but because Souma didn’t fully punish he corrupt aside from extorting them, they lived long enough to literally set the capital on fire, with Souma presumably perishing along with her daughter. So the plan literally settles what Souma failed to see through.

@ HOOfan_1
She’s bully bait.

On a serious note

I thought he was keeping her a slave so she could be forced to honor an order that if she felt he ever turned into a tyrant or hurt his Licia, she would be forced by the slavery magic to kill him. Even if it meant fulfilling the order would kill her too.
