It's even worse than that. First of all the premise of this serie is shit as the Légion wouldn't glorify a single soldier or let it happens, it goes against it's core principle. Also Légionnaires aren't. Fucking. Mercenaries. They're "regular" soldiers of the french military, not some civilians with guns working for a PMC.
Also it's neither the good camo pattern, the trucks used by the french army nor the gun used to replace the Famas.

Correct, the FFL (French Foreign Legion or in its original language "Légion Étrangère Française") isn't a mercenary group.
It's a french independent ground forces army corps, sponsored by the french government to increase its international reach.
Soldiers are recruited un-dependent of nationality (they do some background check however) and let the enlisted get the french nationality as they finish their service.
Their equipment, like you said are misrepresented.

It's sad to see this much misrepresentation while the FFL are known for their valor, camaraderie, sense of duty and proficiency.

Yeah, from what I've heard the French Foreign Legion is highly respected by the French people because as one of their members you are basically going out of your way and throwing away previous allegiances to fight in the name of France and its people.

Cigarette before night fight? This is nonsense. When you light the cigarette they can be seen from dozen KM away. And the smell of smoke can be fatal to operation. It is common sense of soldier.
