I think I remember this discussion from before.
My argument against that was it would be against Kurt's best interests if he let someone who has the potential to be just as influential as he would be do everything for him - especially when there are people who are working actively against him present (Klaus). Here you have a candidate whose only virtue is that he was born earlier, and on other hand is someone much younger who has powerful magic and seems to be the solution to all their problems. It's easy to see who among the two the subjects would favor more. Furthermore, that more capable one also does not seem to wish to take over the state, and tying him down to the family to only serve his elder brother in the near future would have been oppressive.

From my perspective, you're just making excuses. Even if all of that is true, and I'm not conceding that because you're just speculating and assuming intent, this is what we know for SURE, and what we know is that Kurt already tried to cooperate with whatever this protagonist is called because the translators can't settle on a name, he already pushed for this. And the father did a flat-no. The father created this situation. The father is the reason this is all happening. The father thinks it would "look bad" if Kurt and his younger adventurer brother cooperated to make the estate better for everyone, and shot down every attempt Kurt made to cooperate with his siblings, going out of his way to pit his children against each other.
The father is the villain of this arc, and if this goes the way the LN does, then he's going to get away with it while everything gets loaded off on Kurt. That's bad writing. If you want a character to be the villain, you have infinite freedom to write them in whatever way you want. This isn't good writing, it's lazy. We're being TOLD that Kurt is a bastard. That's not what we're being SHOWN. Good stories show. Bad stories and bad writing tell.

of course I would be - the part where it explicitly says the father was the bad guy isn't out yet on the manga adaptation
I thought all we had was a difference in how we interpreted that exchange - where it seemed to me like the father was looking out for all his sons
and no, I don't think Kurt is a bad guy. he just seems unfortunate, and the POV from his side made it sure that we know where he's coming from.

His father is pitting his own children against one another for the sake of pride, in a fight that will explicitly end up with at least one of them disinherited and probably dead, all at the expense of the people his father swore an oath to protect and look after, and neither his father NOR the servant are portrayed as being responsible, even though this entire situation exists for no other reason than because they created it. The father and servant are going to get off scot free over a clusterfuck THEY created.
The older brother is a retard, but he's also a lightning rod for the consequences of other people's actions, which is the part you don't want to understand, because winning an internet argument is more important to you. The actual villains of this scenario are going to walk away with clean hands while a patsy takes all the blame, and if that was the intended outcome, it would have been interesting, but instead you're genuinely supposed to be so shocked at the older brother's plan that you forget who engineered the entire situation in the first place. It was shit in the novel and it's going to be shit here, too. There's a reason most people stopped reading the novel, it's because it's bad and there are better isekais out there. Stop willfully misinterpreting what people say to try and win an internet argument.

@Lord-Raine But he isn't pitting them against each other, he's making someone who isn't aware what consequences his actions will have what the consequences of his actions would be. Me telling someone that putting their hand in fire will burn them isn't me pitting them against timber or whatever. The most you can pin on the father in this case is he probably had a direct hand in his overall education so his idiocy rubbed off on the eldest the most, they pointed out how most the sons who left the house realized how fucking stupid they were.
