Did Eumenes actually have a hand in creating the modern rules for chess or is it just being played up for this story?

I know its believed that chess came from the Persians but not the rules.

Edit: I was wondering wtf was going on. Hephaestion was a childhood friend of Alexander historically. I guess this is were the story branches off more into myth.
