Damn, I love how these characters are actually concerned with laws and stuff even with a crisis at hand. Like, most zombie horror protags would just snatch stuff and presume that it's obvious that they don't need to pay. These folks snatch stuff, try to pay for it, and write IOUs if they can't. It really helps prevent that "what if we're just like the zombie horde" trope from playing out.
