Ikoku Nikki - Vol. 6 Ch. 26.5 - page.26.5: SMALL TALK

wow for a .5 chapter they sure gave us a lot of pages, i was thinking going in that it was gona be like 5 pages with like random garbage, glad to see its not

A really nice bonus chapter that gave us more content than expected.
How is it that every chapter of this manga resonates with me?

You know what I really love about this manga?
The nonchalance it treats lgbt+ stuff with... without seeming dismissive of it entirely.
The best friend in the main story is a little baby lesbian and Makio is just like subtly supportive and treats it like a normal thing (which it totally is btw) instead of getting overly preachy or making a point of how that makes her 'different'.
And now in this side-chapter we get an aromantic coming out to her friends without suddenly being told "Oh you'll find someone someday..."
As an aro enby, I've gotta say... every chapter of this just makes me love the Mangaka even more.

@AllosaurusJei i didn't read her as being aromantic, i thought her declaration that 'she doesn't do love' just meant that she'd be into casual only type physical interactions (tho it'd be great to read something of this calibre featuring aro peeps)

As a straight dude in his late 20s, I never thought I'd find a group of four girls drinking their new years away so relatable.

That's right kids, Don't do love. Lust is fine though, provided you've had a vasectomy, because overpopulation.

The "Small Talk" title is kinda misleading, the content matches all the chapters that are already out - the same humanistic approach.
A delightful read! Relatable as well. Can't help joining those loving the mangaka..

That’s some healthy friendship goals. Also I feel the part about seeing relatives only once a year and still not wanting to see them haha

This feels more like a complete chapter than a bonus one. Not that I'm complaining. 😀

Also like the aro rep but it's more, like-- people have been having the same feelings throughout history --whether it's feeling attraction to the same sex as yours or just figuring out you're totally ambivalent to love or the relationship deal for whatever reason.

wow casually aro

also....is that baby Asa? Her hair's blonde...
I'm suddenly reminded of the second chapter when her relatives questioned whether or not she was even related to her mom

@djtws4e Only doing physical relationships is still aro. It's not ace though. Also her "figuring it out" instead of deciding on it is also a clear indicator of it being aro.

I love to see how each of Makio's friends lives a different type of life story. When they talked about it, they'd already gotten through the hard parts. They already got their conclusion, but complicated emotion is behind them. Asa still doesn't know that kind of things. Emiri started to realize something.
Maturity is very realistic in this manga.

In some ways this story feels more LGBTQ friendly than a lot of stories that explicitly focus on it.

It was at this chapter I realized that both the aunt and MC are really good characters.
