My bad. Forgot to consider different country, different regulations. Heck, I don't even know if it's OTC in my own country.. lol
It's because online discussions(English-dominated sites) seems to all say it's OTC.. That's what I based on. And yeah, no drugs are without side effects.

@phoenix_eD Regular birth control pills probably aren't OTC many places. There are some pretty major risks to taking them, much more so than other OTC drugs. You may be thinking about emergency contraception (aka the morning after pill), some forms of which are available OTC without a prescription.

And apropos to the discussion, this blog says you can get them from your gynecologist in Japan, so they're probably not OTC there.
