Late to the party, but to answer the above question for anyone else who might read this, she hit the teacher impulsively because she felt betrayed by the teacher, who had never lied to her before. It was only later that she realised the implications, so she tried to protect the teacher's secret by not telling others why she hit her, so that no one else would be able to spot the thread.
