I gotta say, the novel's adaptation to this manga leaves much to be desired -- it's too abbreviated. Some parts are barely comprehensible without reading the novel to understand the whole context.

That world has some pretty shitty gods, if they made this [Contract] system to to check the greed that it's helping along, and they think that an eternal bond needs to be Master/Servant. I mean seriously, it's the contracts that let you make whoever into a slave, and then take all their skills.

I wonder if the ritual is another contract type. One would thin it preferable that their souls just be linked rather than the master servant bond as you'd think if a slave and master had a lot of respect for each other enough to go through the entire ritual then being close for eternity regardless of position would be preferable.
