It'll allow you to have a consistent supply of food but not more. And compared to the quantity of work you have to do, hunting and foraging is more efficient but it's more risky and you're more prone to accidents leading to shorter lives overall.
There are lots of others pros and cons to agriculture but productivity has long been part of the latter. The techniques Almus describes in chapter 4 is before the fallow dropping revolution when productivity started to be an advantage.

Though some groups like to gather all the X.Y chapters in a single X one, trading update frequency as intended by the publisher for bigger chunks of story at a time.
