And when we do get MCs that “aren’t pussies”, they’re usually either massive edgelords who torture anyone who looked at them the wrong way or massive perverts who literally cannot see a woman as anything more than breasts and a vagina, and half of the chapter is just them raping the girl into submission. Or both.

It’s almost as if going all the way in either direction isn’t the best path to take, and a good protagonist can be a mix of passiveness and activeness. And people who keep complaining that MCs are pussies just because they don’t immediately treat the world like it’s their playground should probably just go back to manhwa or xianxia works.

I think the choice mc made is pretty reasonable one. Two years of military service and after that you can be free adventurer with expirience and benefits from the guild is better than being in service to the king for indefinite time. Or being free from the get-go with zero knowledge and expirience and putting yourself in great risk of dying fast.
