@Nep The difference is if you feel a conflicting happiness while simultaneously feeling immense emotional torment. An ending like 5cm/s, Your Lie in April, and fucking Etika that's purely tragic with no redeeming element is just sad.

Most writers will choose to add that silver lining though. Reminiscence, redemption, release, repreive, that's where the bittersweet feeling comes from imo.
