The wording is really confusing, I had to re-read a few times to understand what the heck was going on in this chapter.

So Jasper is the Prime Minister's (Lancelot) "son". In their country, the title/position is only handed down after death. Jasper is worried because her father is looking into adopting an actual male successor into the family. On the streets, Oscar witnessed Jasper speaking with Adrian, who currently has a seedy reputation of doing dirty work for nobles. Oscar believes that Rene's father is possibly working with Jasper in hiring Adrian to kill Lancelot...and the plan is that once Lancelot is dead, Jasper would become Prime Minister, be "married" to Rene, but she will be given to Adrian as his lover as payment.

The whole reincarnation of a god is anyone's guess lol.
