Everything in a game follows a set parameter, so the actions and results will always correlate.
But real world is not so much. People bear assumptions, emotions, which make them irrational.
In this case, it happens to both Heronia and Bertia because they keep assuming that this world follows the game plot and it must be followed.

Imagine that you're playing Pokemon and suddenly your own pokemons rebel against you.
Isn't it impossible? Heronia's situation is similar to that.
