To be fair, I wouldn't think they would be attacked as well if not for the fact that this is a fictional story and all stories need pointlessly inserted conflict. I mean, he just wiped out the bandits a week ago and left no survivors. Even if the flames were big enough for whichever warmongering nation/opportunistic bandits to fill in the gaps/send reinforcements, it should not be long enough for them to gather enough manpower to get past the patrols and then defeat trained guards.

Flags on the other hand are usually quite an unfair assessment. Think of how many plane crashes there would be in real life if flags are actually a thing.
