I like dimension type stuff and if they can't alter their own future by going in the past it means they can't dimension travel. Because if they can time travel AND dimension travel changing the future is as easy as 1+1. Actually it's almost impossible to NOT change the future if they can make alternate dimensions. But in this world they are only stuck on one time line.
So that means their time travel abilities aren't that powerful.
