"That's the first time anyone's said that to me." Is a phrase that's not bad on its own, but has become a pet peeve of mine in manga and anime. It's just so poorly used in most of the stuff I've read and is usually just an excuse for some boring, generic romcom protagonists to inexplicably get the interest of the hottest chick in school.

@Tersione paradoxically, there is a subset of really, really hot nice girls who guys don't approach because they're intimidated by them - and the first guy to give them some attention melts them. That's how you see them sometimes end up with "normal" guys and you wonder how.
