I'm really not sure what I was expecting after the batshit insane cliffhanger from last chapter, but it's kind of funny that the missing arm turned out to be a complete nonissue!
"I did it right this time". THIS time?! That's concerning.
Also @Lilliwyt I'm not a fan of it because it's an excuse card. Authors will use things like this to go "What it's not gay! It's just healing magic!". Beating around the bush is often frustrating and it lets them do what they want without having to commit. Maybe the author will do things differently here, but I've seen a lot of series like this where it just seems like the author is being a coward. Having their cake and eating it as well.
@Lilliwyt I don't think you're understanding me. My problem is that's just an excuse for them to kiss, without any meaning and it's an easy card for authors to play when they want characters to kiss. Especially when they want them to kiss but don't want to confirm anything romantic, at that point the kiss just degrades into eye-candy/fan-service. While still completely avoiding the responsibility of confirming that the characters are in a relationship, and completely dodging the question of if they're gay or not. They're kissing because it's "necessary". I find that incredibly frustrating and it allows the author to just be a coward that doesn't have to commit to a same sex relationship angle. However maybe this story will progress more into a romance later on, but for now I'm skeptical because that trope is very much gay-baiting a lot of the time.
@HauntedPizza Fair enough, i didn't put that much thought tbh. But more than yuri-bait, for me the biggest problem is Mimi condition : she is just a little girl killing machine who is getting revive each time just for keep fighting because she's hella strong. I don't really see how the manga can have a good end unless the war end so Mimi will be free to have a "normal" life, possibly with Shiina.
@Lilliwyt The English fan translation of the name is "My Wish is to Fall In Love Until You Die". So I unfortunately also really have my doubts about this being happy at any point, especially given how grim dark everything has been so far. The school is messed up and uses the youth as disposable soldiers and Mimi seems to be another victim.
The grim-dark narrative isn't necessarily my cup of tea, but that's at least something that can be an acceptable route choice for an author to go if done properly. Mostly if it's not done just for the sake of being sad just to be sad, or edgy for the hell of it. I have a bigger problem with the possible yuri-bait angle because that's in my opinion a sign of bad writing + the author being a coward that's unwilling to commit, or take their own character's relationships seriously. Again though, I hope I'm proven wrong here.
