My only guess on how they'll explain it is that whatever the disease/program he's infected with, the way it works is that 80 is the limit for non-romantic love

This is just what i think, but maybe 100 percent of the affection meter is like full on intimate love and affection. 80 percent is like respect and the line before intimacy. That being the reason his friends and mother only reached 80. Would be weird if his mom was at 100,this would be another kind of manga if yah get me :3
