My guess is that Indou's mum got killed protecting/looking for Kagami. Probably because Kagami ran off upset about something, as kids do, and Mama Indou was either sent to find her or went because she was to watch her. Either way I'm guessing that Kagami has some serious survivor's guilt.

Anyway, I can smell "I killed your mother" from a mile away, so after how submissive Shinobu has been acting and all the tears and her ending up not being the most proactive of heroines there's not much in this story to hold the interest. This is a very nice opportunity to get out of this manga before it really turns to crap.
