@Shamz partly the writer knows what they're doing and is passionate about the project, partly from oversaturation and exposure to highschool stories leaving us numb to many of the main plot hooks used in them, and possibly partly that you are having a harder and harder time relating to the stories of highschoolers while we as humans gave a very easy time relating to animals for some reason
