Theodore's father is not bad or a perfect jerk, if I'm not mistaken the former head of the Gartner family (Theodore's grandfather) had promised to unite the family with the Broderick family (Catherine's family), a political marriage then... The current earl met Theodore's mother when they were young and fell in love. Lisa knew about the Gartner County situation and accepted it, which is why they originally lived in a separate house from the main family, until Lisa died defeating a demon.

Count Gartner had to marry Byron's mother for his obligation as a noble and for not staining the honor of his own father who made the arrangements for the marriage, on the other hand the house of Marquis Broderic has a lot of influence and at some point the Gartner family were "in their debt" in the past or something like that. Regardless of all that, I agree that Theodore's father is stupid for not realizing how his son was treated after he brought him into the main house.

Oh yeah, and eventually he uncovers an even bigger conspiracy with the help of that "fortune teller."

Uh,okay. So the cat was MC's familiar. And bitch-stepmother isn't a demon (Well, she is in a sense.) and likely didn't do as much as I suspected last chapter to kill MC's mother off. I still believe she is involved in the "and nobody helped her"-story, but now I mainly suspect her family as masterminds.

@Qelix There was that line about a fortune teller, that'd be the intermediary who's manipulating this woman specifically I think (or well, one of them), and I suppose that could be related to her family but that'd still feel like even they're getting their strings pulled either by someone higher up the local food chain or by someone from elsewhere. Maybe the demons in that case, maybe just some other foreign humans, sticking their nose into this country's politics for whatever reason they might have.

I feel bad for his dad. Like, I'm pretty sure he never cared for that evil bitch Catherine. All politics and what's best for the family name. Seems like he's had his hands tied with all of his duties and obligations. I think he's secretly cheering for Theodore who has been able to break free from the hereditary chains. He's probably eager to use the stepbrother's lawless behavior and his wife's betrayal/attempted poisoning to finally get rid of them and reestablish his relationship with Theo.
