Even if the safe zone trap fails to kill them, if you do some palette swapping for the monsters you use for the attack then even the lucky survivor could still pass it off as an attack from a freak mutant that can get through safe zones. The scam is actually quite airtight.

@natchu96 That is, in fact, the trap. Some safe rooms (like the magic sword trial room) can have other tricks to them, but mostly the intent is to have totally erratic and not at all normal monsters nope murder them in their sleep.
