scythes don't look like this, most scythes have a horizontally curved blade and two handles on the staff so that you could swing the scythe to the side of you and cut crops. the grim reaper is depicted as using one as he is 'harvesting' souls, Grim(solemn, sad, unpleasant) Reaper(farmer, harvester).
