A remark on the T/N on page 25:
It is historical fact that poetry (pretty much anywhere poetry is found ) was originally meant to be sung, not recited. This is the case with the poetry of the ancient Mediterranean world as well. A holdover from this tradition is the use of "song" to mean "chapter" in epic poems like the Iliad or the Odyssey, or "canto" in Dante's "La Divina Commedia".
Hence, the dual meaning of "song" and "poem" for the kanji 歌.
