I think maybe, realistically speaking, the reason the snakes were defanged was because they were biting her while asleep. Some kind of banal reason like that. And it's not like they really need them since they are her hair and don't need to eat on their own. So defanging might be like removing a person's wisdom teeth. For the sake of comfort.
