Miageru to Kimi wa - Vol. 3 Ch. 20 - Shuuji and Kaede

Is it implying that Shuuji might like Takamine?

im confused are they wondering if each other best friend is suitable for them?

Uhhh I don't know if my brain is fried but I barely understood this chapter. What were the two BFFs talking about? Does the guy like Takamine? The girl likes the MC?? Uh

There's a lot of subtext I'm missing here.

I feel like I didn't understand the chapter, so I'm gonna throw out what I feel like I got from it and somebody can correct me if I'm wrong:

Shuuji and Kaede were discussing whether or not Yuuki was suitable for being Takamine's boyfriend. Shuuji says that he could become Yuuki's rival (which either implies that he likes Takamine or he's just trying to get Yuuki to be aware that he could have rivals in the future depending on Takamine).
Kaede may or may not be developing feelings for Shuuji, but it seems clear that Shuuji does not reciprocate.
Kaede brings up that Shuuji has a "thing" with Shibuki, which I guess means that he may have feelings for Yuuki? Kaede definitely has a thing for Takamine though.

So, did I miss anything? Because that's a hell of a lot to dump all at once and the conversation was left pretty vague.

please tag me if you understand this chapter, either because a better translation comes out (this one feels particularly nonsensical) or because you're a genius at figuring out japanese subtext

Reread it a couple times and still struggling to see if he meant "rivals" in a hypothetical way or not....

@GACT
That’s about as much as I got from it as well. Don’t think it was meant to seem like Shuuji liked Takamine — if anything I thought he was indirectly referring to Kaede vying for Takamine’s attention (romantic or not).

I thought the point of it was that Shy Girl is also crushing on Tiny Boy. Pretty confusing.

The translation makes it seem like Shuji likes Takamine and Kaede likes Yuki, but their mannerisms made it look more like they were both checking whether their best friend's SO was fit to be with them. Very confusing.
