In the case of multiple series on MangaDex, there seems to be a lack of awareness of what “plain” means in application to a woman. It explicitly means neither pretty nor beautiful, and has had that meaning for about 250 years. (See adjective 1, definition V 15 in the SOED.)

we are at some point shown Okabe out of Yuria's sight, and discover her indeed to be plain. [/ul] I think that the scene in which Yuria was asleep and Okabe awake is a counter-example, and a review might find others.
