@dharman Thankfully the title kinda lay out the main plot.
MC is trying to use magic now because he is the strongest swordsman in his previous life but still have no magic talent in this life.
Villains are not important in this kind of story, MC will just wipe the floor with them lol.

Why are the side characters clueless idiots who are first shown to be strong, independent and capable, yet can't even defend against a 3rd rate villain-wannabe who's never actually anything more than cannon fodder that gets wiped out by the MC in one hit and replaced with an even more powerful nobody, who is irrelevant to the plot in the end as well?

Where did you took they were strong, independent and capable?
His sister is strong for her age but against an adult she is just a child and the mage princess is unable to use any type of magic and thus she is defenseless. It is totaly believable when an adult mage suprise attack the two for them to be defeated like that...

@mahtan You're actually wrong about the mage girl, the MC fixed that issue. She can use magic now but she is essentially a beginner, so she wouldn't stand a chance against an expert even if she has more power. As for the sister he attacked her from outside of her field of view, but even if he didn't and she had the chance to fight back she would've still lost.
