is Shen actually dead? I assumed he was (what with the title of ch 96 and all) and that people are just keeping the girls in the dark, but I got a little lost with the whole 'single strand of his soul' thing.

@flootershai I think Zhao managed to hold onto a tiny bit of Shen's soul so that he can still reincarnate or otherwise perpetuate. Shen was at risk of losing his entire soul and dissolving out of reincarnation forever.
