To be honest, I like the pre-serialisation work more. Something about the visuals and the general presentation made it have a unique flair. The fact it wasn't really a manga but an individual drawing or a short series of drawings could play a big role. The author really had to think carefully how to tell a story with a single page or a couple of pages.
