While I can think of plenty of practical applications for stopping time, outside of doing magic tricks, I can't think of any non-criminal use for being able to turn invisible.
@Esper Is working in espionage for your country considered a crime? You could basically get into anywhere depending on if you don't show up on IR cameras too
@delciotto Only when they are caught. it is a "lone wolf", "disavowed" etc.
@Esper I am thinking in some job in counter terrorism and hostage situation provided they do not violate privacy laws. There is also non violent nature documentary where they are 100 percent certain the animals behave naturally and not wary of strange ape gawking at them. One problem of nature documentary is some animals run away or wary of them.
@Esper That's a pretty good point. I never thought about it. Even if you used it for some specific stuff like crime investigation or working for the country (espionage, counter-espionage), it still wouldn't be enough alone. You'd need the other, acquired skills needed for those kinds of jobs. Above all, it would be dangerous and wouldn't be worth it, unless you really happened to love that stuff. The only time it would be worth it would be during a war if you didn't want to be a coward.
Well, following what Jeirien said, you might find some mediocre, nameless work in the TV/movie business. You could basically manipulate stuff while the camera is running, without getting recorded yourself. It wouldn't be a big deal anymore today because of all the CGI. It would have been considerably bigger decades ago.
Working as a spy, while sanctioned by one country, would certainly be violating the laws of another country. I guess it's all a matter of perspective though.
@Esper
If you make videos for a living (Youtube), then imagine being able to turn yourself invisible will save yourself some time/money/effort in editing and setting up the lighting.
Imagine not having your own shadow getting in the way. You could also present tiny little trinkets without your big stubby fingers blocking the view.
Other than that, any non-criminal usage would involve needing there to be some sort of adversary
e.g. (counter) espionage, self-defense
