@Jorelm Well, even some MMOs do have premade character designs for classes, so those can be genderlocked sometimes I guess. But this is about a type of game that's completely fictional and all right now so drawing real world comparisons is significantly harder. I can think of reasons why they would set it up that way for games like this though. Where people can potentially get a glimpse of or a feel of another person's body, or visit areas that are only for men or women, like an onsen (it's a Japanese VRMMO, no way they left out their communal bathing obsession in this particular series when it's in basically every novel, manga, or anime ever).

@Jorelm Also, it seems for OSO it's pretty enforceable. Reading between the lines, the way OSO generates characters is by scanning your body (like the Kinect) and then using that image to determine gender, physique, etc. Though, I'm not sure how character creation works, but it seems to just "prettify" your actual body or something (which would make sense, if only people's height didn't change).

@Tropingenie I guess that's right, who knows what kind of sci-fi witchcraft they use. But personally, I wouldn't want to play a game that forced me to play as myself.

@Jorelm Agreed. IMO the reason people play MMOs is to be someone else, so OSO's game logic has a fault there. At least in SAO got that part right.

death penalty is by far the lightest
afaik in korean or chinese VRMMO, they BAN you for a day (in real time) at least in novels
how's that for penalty, not to mention those games ARE NOT F2P, they USE REAL MONEY for subscription, not to mention items

btw dont they have parent? orphans or just busy at work?
