The fact all the characters and aspect of this are so fleshed out and idiosyncratic is what really draws me to them.

@Tamerlane I think you do know this, but there is an anime adaptation of this as well. 12 episodes, 24 minutes with OP & ED. If you didn't watch it, I'd say give it a shot.
