You can't catch a cold, from being cold... It doesn't work that way. It's a misconception. You need to be exposed to the virus to catch a cold.
The cold temperature will lower your immune response, hence why you can catch a cold more easily when cold... But you still need exposition to the virus. The fact that he got a cold right away, means that he has the virus brewing inside of him already by that point and would've gotten sick regardless.
(I swear, calling that virus a "cold" is so misleading...)
